A quick online search failed to give definitive answer to the origin of this national day.
May be it all started by a dentist looking for extra work who recognized the need for false teeth in his / her community.
Cosmetic dentures, also known as false teeth, are prosthetic removable devices constructed to replace missing teeth; they are supported by the surrounding gum and occasionally teeth.
The first cosmetic dentures were made by Etruscans in northern Italy around 700BC. Human or animal teeth were used to replace the missing teeth with gold band used to fix them over the wearer’s existing teeth.
At the time, real teeth often taken from those killed in battle, was the only method of making cosmetic dentures.
Ivory cosmetic dentures were popular in the 1700s, made from natural materials including walrus, elephant, or hippopotamus
Modern cosmetic dentures use plastic or porcelain teeth on a plastic – acrylic or metal base.
Cosmetic dentures can provide replacement for some missing teeth (Partial removable cosmetic denture) or to all of the teeth (complete or full cosmetic denture).
There are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or those that can be supported by dental implants.
Cosmetic dentures can provide acceptable replacement to some or all missing teeth. They provide good cosmetic replacement to the teeth and allow you to smile and enjoy food.
However, with advanced gum resorption they may become loose and uncomfortable.
In such case dental implants can be used to retain the cosmetic denture.
The use of all on 4 dental implants technique can replace all missing teeth with fixed supporting dental bridge
Alternatively, limited number of dental implants (2-4) can be used to retain a cosmetic denture. This can be more economic method to replace the teeth in predictable technique.
